Each player controls a powerful character called a Phoenixborn and commands a deck full of spells and creatures with the goal of defeating their opponent(s). Ashes expands well to 4 players, and the rules barely change at all, since most cards are written to accomodate this. 2v2 is probably a bit more fair than free for all. The slow release schedule is a boon , but if you were to get expansions, I'd start with the two upcoming ones whose pre-orders are not yet open. They each have new decks AND new
